Photo Shoot: Part 1

Wow, where has the time gone? I can't believe it's already the middle of June! This year has been a busy one and I haven't had much time to make cakes so I thought I would share some photos that were taken last year. Last fall we had a small "photo shoot" in our apartment for a friend and I decided to make a few things and sneak in a few shots.

These last two pictures were taken only because I had a major craving that day for some coconut macaroons. They were so pretty, I thought they were photo worthy too!

More coming soon!

Lightning McQueen & Saints Helmet Cakes

We recently celebrated the birthdays of my brother and nephew who happen to share the same birthday. For this Cars themed party, I had to make my nephews favorite Cars character, Lightning McQueen. This fondant covered cake was orange cake with strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream.

My brother's cake was a helmet of his favorite football team, the Saints. This was a pumpkin cake with maple buttercream.

Happy Birthday Brad & Mason!

Happy New Year!!!

Like many people I've talked to, I was not sad to see 2011 go. With the exception of the arrival of my beautiful and perfect niece Ashlyn, this year was a bit, well, blah. Let me just say there was not near enough cake and most of the cakes I did make never made it to this blog. One of my goals for 2012 is to make more cakes and to actually post them. To start, here are the cupcakes that helped us ring in the New Year. Chocolate, chocolate chip cake with fluffy vanilla buttercream. I gave them a little New Years glam with a silver star and black and silver cake sparkles.

I wish you all health and happiness in 2012!!!

Cakessica Bleeds Red

After a long summer break (hence no new posts since June) I am back at it. Fall is beginning, days are getting shorter and nights are getting cooler which means football season is underway. As a former Ute, it's only natural that I was pretty excited to watch them play BYU and decided to make a cake for the event. The cake featured a hand painted University of Utah logo and fondant football resting in buttercream grass.

It was vanilla cake with cookies and cream filling and swiss meringue buttercream. And of course, it had to be RED!

Victory never tasted so good!

Buttercream Roses

Generally roses are not my favorite flower...unless they are made out of white chocolate buttercream! These simple flowers made for an elegant and tasty addition to this dark chocolate cake. I played around with colors and ended up with pale purple roses and then purple/red roses. There will definitely be more floral cakes in my decorating future!

Beach Bear Cupcakes

In anticipation for summer to begin, I decided to make a fun, summer themed cupcake. These cupcakes feature a sandy beach and umbrella for the sun-bathing bears :) Enjoy your summer!!!

Odds and Ends

I made these cakes quite a while ago but just haven't got around to posting them.

I made this cake for a Kings of Leon fan to have at a release party for their latest CD. It was pumpkin cake with vanilla custard filling and maple buttercream.

This cake I made just for fun. I don't remember the flavor but I'm assuming it had chocolate in there somewhere. I always find a way to include chocolate in any cake that I make for myself.
